5 Senses

During the months of January and February, Kg 2 experimented and explored the 5 senses. Each week we concentrated on one sense whereby we did different activities.

  • For the sense of sight,  we experimented with the magnifying glasses, coloured glasses, binoculars and a microscope.
  • For the sense of hear, we took  children on a "listening walk" around the school. On returning, we discussed the sounds that we heard and then children drew pictures of sources of sounds.
  • For the sense of smell children distinguished between different scents and learnt to identify variety of smells. Students developed the ability to compare and contrast.
  • Children were encouraged to explore their sense of taste by tasting and identifiying the different food types of different taste: sweet, salty, bitter and sour. They learnt different sections in the tongue that identify a particular taste the most. We made a tongue model.
  • For the sense of touch children explored the different kinds of texture rough, smooth, soft hard and many others.
