We have been embarking on the Community Helpers theme last two months. We've been learning about many jobs and the tools used with them. We also took some field trips down to the clinic, restaurant, toy shop, pharmacy, baker and the fire station.
We made a Doctor's bag and each child used a stethoscopes that got us all listening
to each other's heart beats.
We met the Saifee Park Security Guard and its important job on how they help us to protect us and our houses.
The chef in action!
The generous chef made chips for us which we had during break. The children observed the different tools the chef used to make the chips with.
We visited the toy shop. Where they met a businessman and the sales person.
Also visited a pharmacy where we met the pharmacist who sold medicine.
We took a visit down to the bakery. Where the baker was kind enough to show us around. Children got to feel the dough, see the GIGANTIC oven from inside. In class children become bakers making their own bakerman's hat!
Fire! Help! And who is that one person we would turn to? Yes, you're right, The Fire Fighter. As one of our Community helpers we went to visit a security firm's fire department, where the children were introduced to the world of the fire fighter, what he does, the equipment's that he uses and the dangers that he goes through to save life and property. Another important concept the children learnt was about the 'chip pan fire' When oil is heated it can cause fire. Our first instinct would be to put water to stop the fire. Wrong! That's the most deadliest action you can take as oil and water are never good friends when put together. The fireman showed that in order to put away the fire in a frying pan you should take a damp blanket and cover it on the pan. You can view the photos of how it would work.
