Friday Activities.

Every Friday a class from the Kindergarten plans an activity to carry out with all 3 kindergarten classes together.

Baking Biscuits!
During the Community Helpers Theme in Kg 2 we decided to become bakers! We got all the ingredients together to bake the biscuits. First we explained to the children the job of the baker and the different kinds of food the baker bakes. We then mixed the ingredients as per the instructions in the cookery book. Children observed the ingredients being measured in the weighing scale. After the mixing was done the children saw how the dough was formed. Each child got a turn to shape the dough into a circle and press with the fork to form a design! In went the biscuits in the oven and after 15 minutes we had delicious scent spreading throughout the school! It took just couple of minutes for the children to munch it down.

Pat a cake pat a cake Bakers man! Bake me a cake as fast you can pat it and prick it and mark it with a K and put in the oven for KG's and me:)

On another Friday, related to the same project of community helpers, we called some professionals that were available to us at the time to describe their job and how they help our community.

Field Trip to Wilson Airport 2012

Yipee! We are off to the airport! The students all geared for their day at the airport clambered into the waiting vehicles along with us, teachers as we set off for this “Fun n Learn” expedition to draw their learning on the job of a pilot and the place where he works. Our concept was "Community Helpers."

As the we entered the airport we were warmly greeted by the airport supervisor who was going to take us around. She first walked us through the security and then down to where the actual airplanes where parked. The children were overwhelmed by the sight of AIRPLANES surrounding them!

The students joys knew no bounds as they were allowed to enter the airplane and even had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit!

The students excitedly climbed back into their bus wanting to reach home and fill their loved ones with the excitement of the day!

The wheels of the bus went round and round all the way to the airport!

The children excitedly enter the airplane!

Visit to Saifee Foundation Clinic 2012

A dream for almost all children. 'What do you want to be when you grow up?' 'A Doctor!' And so off we went to experience a day in the life of a doctor. Who is a doctor? A Community Helper whose services help the sick to get better, and which more better place to take them then to our very own Saifee Foundation clinic where the children were guided by Dr.Shk. Burhanuddin Badri. He took the children on a tour of his clinic where he showed the children all the equipments that a doctor uses while treating his patient. Here comes the fun part, children also got to try to use the stethoscope and listen to each others heartbeat. What a great experience, by the end of our visit all the kg 2's wanted to become doctor's when they grew up.

Doctor letting the children have a take at using the stethoscope.

Open your mouth and say, Aaaaaaaa.....

Boom Boom! I can hear his heartbeat.

Children making a doctor's bag for their follow up activity. They coloured and then cut the pictures of the items in a doctor's bag.

They then stuck each item on the cut out bag.

There we have our fully equipped doctor's bag.

Dental Week 2012

The siwak project which took place throughout the school, for a week was to educate our children on the importance of Dental Hygiene. Some of which included,
·        How to brush (habit)
·        Which brush to use. Electronic brush
·        Toothpaste. Some tooth powders have nicotine, tobacco etc. Select carefully.
·        Mouth washes have alcohol: be careful
·        Duration of brushing: 2-3 minutes
·        Importance of dental hygiene
·        Oral ailment
·        Foods that harm and foods that heal
·        Gums
·        Structure of teeth
·        Flossing – discourage tooth picks
A report of the activities conducted for the siwak project was then forwarded to Aliqadr Moula (tus) as this was a strong farman from him to educate mumineen all over the world on the importance of Dental Hygiene.
Kg 2 Children did a follow up activity, in groups, (pictures shown below) on how to take good care of their teeth.

Teachers drew 3 pictures of teeth where children did finger printing on it with white paint.

These teeth show a progression where the first tooth is filled with decay due to eating wrong foods, and so one must avoid these foods and as shown in the second picture, brush their teeth thoroughly so that that the teeth remain clean, white and healthy as shown in the third picture. One group also made toothbrush from ice cream sticks and stuck a rectangle shaped styro foam on it to make it look like a toothbrush.

All 3 classes work displayed on our school entrance board during the Dental Hygiene week.
